Traveling Alone

I was newly married, had recently given birth to our first child, and lived far from home. I missed my family terribly. We were living in Montana at the time. My big brother was soon to be married in my hometown of Boise, and I desperately wanted to attend the wedding.

My husband Venture and I scraped up enough money for one train ticket to Boise, meaning I would travel alone with our baby daughter. I packed our bags, thinking I planned well enough for the journey to Boise, but while on the train I realized I hadn’t factored in the fact that the baby would get motion sickness and wouldn’t be able to keep her food down.

I was already getting concerned about not having enough milk to last the trip when the train started slowing down. Coming to a complete stop, a railroad official told everyone to get off the train. What? I was unaware we had to stay overnight in a hotel and reboard the train the next day. I had no money!

I got off the train with my baby and ran straight to the bathroom. I had no idea what I was going to do. I just held my baby tightly and cried and cried. Then, God sent me an angel. This sweet little lady came to me, asked to pray with me, and then gave me money for a hotel and a meal. Now I had food and a place for the night. That sweet little lady left as quickly as she had come. I never saw her again.
